We employ a Registered Fine Art Conservator with over 25 years experience and specialises in how to remove artwork that has been stuck down, treat discolouration and re-size fragile artwork.

She also specialises in cleaning and repairing oil paintings, watercolours, pastels, prints, drawings and etchings. Original/antique frames repaired tidied and missing areas replaced.

Typical threats to artwork are:
Ultra-violet light (UV)
Humidity and damp
Insects and mould
Air-borne pollutants
Quality of materials
Techniques employed

Ideally all artwork should be in a stable condition prior to framing, without damages, stains, cellotape, or foxing. Restoring an artwork can significantly improve the long term condition of the work; repair losses and return artwork to a state closer to how it was intended to be viewed.

Our conservation service is overseen, by Marion Foster MA Cantab who has a Diploma in the Conservation of Paintings from the Courtauld Institute of Art. We also employ a Fine Art Conservator with over 25 years of experience who specialises in treating artworks on paper. She also cleans and repairs oil paintings, watercolours, pastels, prints, drawings, and etchings.

This service is combined with Alex Fosterís knowledge on restoring antique picture frames. We can replace areas of loss and repair gilding.

Once a piece has been restored it is important to employ conservation techniques in framing so that the problems are less able to reoccur. For example, paper artworks should be sealed between acid free mount boards. All of the mounting we do at our workshop is by default carried out with acid free mounts. Furthermore to stop fresh discolouration, we offer a range of conservation glass options, with up to 99% UV protection, to guard your artwork from harmful light.

Our Guild Commended Framer adheres to conservation framing as laid down by The Fine Art Trade Guild.

We use white core and conservation mount card, which complies to FATG Standard and FATG Conservation level, we also use Cotton Core which complies to FATG Museum level on all our antique artwork.

Our backboard is Conservation Artbak and we use archival hinge tape to secure antique artwork, originals and limited edition prints. We use G Brown Gummed Tape to secure the back of the frame.
